Horse racing & greyhounds

Racing is the one sport whose terms are unlike any darts bettor’s habits, and the vocabulary has to be learned apart: each-way, starting price, going and the rest.

Each-way means two stakes of equal size, win and place together, so the total stake doubles. Ante-post, non-runners and the Rule 4 deduction are the other main terms; horse and greyhound tips are included.

Tax is different too. On 1 April 2027 the general remote rate of General Betting Duty rises to 25%, but remote bets on UK horse racing are held at 15%; pool betting is dutied separately.
